An instantaneous switch from an on-premises Exchange system to Office 365 is known as a cutover migration. Your emails, contacts, and distribution groups are all moved simultaneously. This migration does not allow you to pick and choose which items to transfer, and after it is finished, everyone will have an Office 365 account.

If you already use Exchange 2003, 2007, 2010, or 2013 and have less than 2,000 mailboxes, this Office 365 migration technique is recommended. In fact, due to the time, it takes to move so many accounts, Microsoft advises cutover migration for businesses with less than 150 users.

One thing to keep in mind is that in order to connect to Office 365, each user's Outlook profile will need to be modified.

3. Dual Migration
You may combine Office 365 with your on-premises Exchange servers and current directory services using the hybrid migration to Office 365. As a consequence, you may manage and synchronize user accounts across the two environments.

You may transfer mailboxes in and out of Exchange Online using a hybrid migration. You may even pick and choose which mailboxes to transfer to Office 365 and which to maintain on-premises. In addition, you may offer single sign-on to your team and synchronize passwords to make it simpler to log in to both environments.

You need more than 2,000 mailboxes if you want to utilize a hybrid migration. Additionally, Exchange 2010 or later is required. If not, you must set up at least one Exchange 2013 or Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 (SP3) server on-premises in order to allow connection for a hybrid deployment.

4. Migration IMAP
An IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) migration enables you to move users from Gmail or any other email system that supports IMAP migration, while the other three Office 365 migration options only rely on Exchange.

With an IMAP migration, data is transferred from your source mailboxes to Office 365. IMAP migration, on the other hand, moves mail. Contacts, tasks, and calendar items must all be manually moved by the user and remain in the original inbox.

Before starting the email migration, you must establish a mailbox for each user, something that other migration types take care of for you automatically.

There is a limit of 50,000 mailboxes overall and 5,000,000 items for IMAP migrations. New mail sent to the original mailbox won't be moved once the migration is finished.
